Ruby Tuesday - Red Cannas
I took these out on my patio. The Cannas have been with me a long time, through two moves - my mom's move, when I first dug them out of her yard, and then my own move, from one end of my apartment complex to the other when we needed a larger unit. They love the afternoon sun I get in my newer (5 years) place.

Michelle, we have even more in common - I used to be a teacher's aide in a special education class and I have a son who is IN a special education class. So, I suppose I'm a bit of a Special Education teacher, as well. :D

I have red cannas in my front flower bed as well and I almost photographed them for Ruby Tuesday.

I used to move my cana too. I would grow them in pots outside whatever little place I happened to be renting. However, when I moved to Florida, the movers told me that plants would not be allowed to enter the state unless they'd been certified - and by time I found that out, it was moving day! So all my plants stayed behind at my brother's house.

I was so touched by your ability to relay the challenges and joys faced by parents. I went way back and read your posts about your children. When I saw "summer school", I was going to tell you how much my husband loved teaching summer school. During the regular year, he has high school aged kids, but during the summer he had very young multiply "handicapped" kids and he loved it. They hung on his knees so often that the hair on that side got rubbed off. I decided that I wanted to be a special education teacher because I have a cousin with special needs and I loved working with her. Much later my niece was adopted and she has special needs. It's joy and heartbreak all rolled into one..

Thanks for the compliments. I do love my cannas. Diane, I have plants from my Grandma's place here, too. I used to have a geranium that I started from a cutting from my sister, but it froze last Winter. I like having a connection to my family through the plants. :D
