Ruby Tuesday and My Bike

So far, so good with the exercise, although I almost forgot to ride today. I was in my van at 4:30 and I thought, oh man!

When I got home, I put my shorts on (yes, shorts, it's not cold-cold here yet) and I got to pedaling. I was only 3 miles in and it was too dark, so I headed home. At home, I can do a 3/10 mile loop in the apartment driveway. I had to be really careful, lots of people are coming and going at that time and I was not easy to see. Tomorrow, I'll take an earlier ride. I couldn't not do it on the second day of my plan.

When I arrived at the apartment driveway, two men, also on bikes, were coming right at me. We all turned in and dodged a car right off the bat (some people drive too fast here), then veered to the right, toward the West side of the apartments. One man was in front of me, one behind me.

The one behind me was faster, so he passed on my left, and we veered farther to the right to avoid another car.

It was just a few seconds and nobody said anything, but it was kind vroom, vroom. It reminded me of when I rode in the Wildflower and we finally hit town. Everyone was tearing down the street with the weekend morning traffic - it was exciting, but kind of jarring after riding for so many miles out on the country roads. I remember thinking, I did it, I did it, I'm almost there. I felt great.

I love riding. I run and it's what makes me feel strong and healthy, but riding is pure joy. (Unless I'm going uphill, then it's work).

Ruby Tuesday - Shawna's Party

Happy Ruby Tuesday! Here are some "ruby" photos from my sister-in-law, Shawna's birthday party. I'll share more photos later in a non-ruby post.

Here's Brandon's Caprese Salad. I have a recipe for the salad here. It's super easy - basically tomatoes, olive oil, basil, salt and pepper. Yum. Here is my gorgeous mom. Hi Mom!

And Hayden, my nephew. Look at that hair. It was sort of floating on the breeze. He is so cute.

See, what I mean? Look at that grin. Adorable.

We had a lot of fun at Shawna's party. She is a way better hostess than I will ever be. She does lots of fancy finger foods and cupcakes with edible glitter. She made sangria and appletinis. Yum.

Ruby Tuesday - Flowers and Strawberries

Happy Ruby Tuesday to you! Ruby Tuesday is hosted by the Teach and it features photos with a red theme.

I've got a few shots from my patio. These are some sort of geranium. They have a very red center to the leaves, so the plant looks pretty even when there are no flowers.

And a geranium. This plant is a piece off of a geranium that Mom had on her table as a decoration when my sister graduated from college 16 years ago. If you weren't already aware of it, you can easily do this with geraniums. You break off a piece of the thick part of the stem, then you bury it in some good potting soil, water it, and eventually it will root and take off. Pretty cool, don't you think?

Ruby Tuesday - Patio Flowers

Some of the flowers are really starting to get going and I enjoy seeing my garden awake and showing off. This was taken just before the sprinkling started.

Ruby Tuesday - Ruby Ashlee

Today I have my niece, Ashlee, at her birthday party. She is a little shy and had a hard time getting going with the presents. Didn't bother me, it's her day, after all. Here she sits on the lap of her pretty Mommy, Shawna.

Doesn't she have the sweetest profile? Her little nose and you can't really tell from this shot, although if you've read my blog before you might have seen another shot, her eyes have this little tilt upward at the outer corner. It's like when she was created, the creator said, oh she's cute, but if we tweak this (little nose) and we tweak that (up-tilted eyes), she will be truly stunning. And so she is!

After the party, she came over to our place and spent the night. She's a fun sleepover guest. She always leaves me beautiful works of art.

Ruby Tuesday - Hanging With the Diggles

Here are some Ruby Tuesday shots from my trip. There are glimpses of red, not super bold-splashes. I hope that is okay. I just wanted to take part, since I have not in so long.

Below see Sarah shooting baskets with red on her hat, shoes, and hoop. Check out her hands. She has worked hard with her coach learning how to shoot properly. I love the way the one hand is sort of floating and any second that bowl is going to go "swish."

Check out Trin's shades! Her new room is so pretty with big windows and a window seat. This was inside, no lights on, no flash, (that I remember) just pretty light from the windows.

The Little Mermain hanging with the gang. It looks like the Cabbage Patch dolls is singing. Also Trin's room.

Trinity and Sarah in the game room. Sarah asked for fruit and it makes me happy when my kids request healthy snacks. I'm not sure if you can see it, but the dot on Trin's nose is a rhinestone sticker. Her "nose earring."

Boy, I miss those guys!!

Ruby Tuesday at the Farmer's Market

Hello and happy Ruby Tuesday to you!

Here are some touches of red that I found either at the Farmer's Market this weekend or in the case of the tamales and sauce, after purchasing at the Farmer's Market.

Nothing like a tamale breakfast - yum!! This sauce is very red, redder than in the shot, and hot, but still flavorful. I wish I knew how they made it. I always grab an extra when I get tamales. These are the vegetarian - cheese and green chilis. Here is some red lettuce - a purpley red this time. I got a bag of fancy mixed greens for $1. It was huge - lots of peppery tasting greens.

I love pistachios. This time it's not the food, but the tablecloth that's red. I get to do a pistachio review around Super Bowl time. I can't wait. Lastly, it was 72 F here today! I wore shorts and flip flops to work. I planted some pansies and spent some time outside with Max. It was a lovely afternoon.

Ruby Tuesday Geraniums

Happy Ruby Tuesday! I still have some color on the patio - my Geraniums. I used to have a candy-stripe colored plant, but it froze a few years ago. It was so pretty, white in the center, red along the edge. I think I'll look for another one this Summer.

Summer.........sigh......

These Geranium's are "men's red." I wrote about men and red at Dating Dames once. Apparently, men are drawn to an orange-red and women prefer a bluer-red. What do you think? I've even heard women say, ooh, I don't like orange-red. Personally, any red is a good red to me, but yeah, I prefer the bluer-red.

One time, we were camping at Fort Bragg, over in Mendocino, and against the campground's bathroom building, there was a HUGE red Geranium plant. It was bush-like, came out about 3 feet and my sister and I were eye-level with the top of the plant. I keep thinking, wait, didn't it go all the way to the roof, but I think I'm exaggerating in my memory there. Anyway, it was huge and beautiful and instantly made me think of my mom, as red Geraniums always do. Mom loves red. And Geraniums.

Ruby Tuesday - Pencils

I haven't taken part in Mary, the Teach's Ruby Tuesday for awhile. So, I shot my box of colored pencils this morning. I haven't used any of them in so long. I have the Prisma colors and some watercolor pencils - I love these pencils, but I haven't used them for awhile. The top of the box was very dusty. I think I'll get them out this weekend. Sarah and I can draw something fun.

I bet a lot of people are going to have holiday decorations for their Ruby Tuesday shots. That wouldn't work for me - my decorations are white, pink, purple, and blue. Bay came home and said, "It's so girly in here!" and it is. I'll post some photos of the decorations later.

Ruby Tuesday - Christmas in November

This first one, well it's not red, but it is pretty impressive. Today, I was showing the photos to Mom and she told me that her parents told her, "Don't wiggle it," because they were afraid it would fall out before the photos. That cracks me up!

Shawna had some Christmas decorations for us to use as props. The kids loved them, although Hayden was not a fan of laying down here. Crying baby photos are so cute.

I got this one, the only one without him crying in the lay down position, just in time. They are so darn pretty. I love these kids. I hope that Shawna and Brad like the photos.

The boys liked tasting these balls. Don't worry, they are not glass. We watched them very close.

I got to start Veggie Chic today. WooHoo!! Only a "hello" and some background on my previous writing, but.....well, it will get better.

Ruby Tuesday - Halloween in November

I'm getting in on Mary the Teach's Ruby Tuesday. I have all the kids home and my boyfriend left for home this morning, so not a lot of time for fun stuff. I have some photos from the Halloween parade at school.

This is Trevor. Pretty darn scary, although the kitty behind him looks pretty unfazed.

There he is! How cute is he with those freckles and those big eyes? He is a funny kid, has a real spunky streak. The other day I was walking on the field, talking to another student and he ran in front of us with a football. He was moving so fast, that I felt a breeze against my face. We are very lucky that he is that fast or we would have run right into him. I need to learn to pay better attention on the playground.

And last I've got a very pretty pirate. I love my job at the school. It is wonderful to be able to share the day with these great kids.

Ruby Tuesday - Red Snapdragon

Today, I have a couple of snapdragons from my patio. I still have quite a bit of color out there, as we are currently enjoying lots of daylight and warm temperatures. This week, it's supposed to get up to the 80s each day, until about friday, when the weather calls for rain. Or at least it did when I looked yesterday.

Ruby Tuesday - Red Helmet

Today is Ruby Tuesday, again.

Here we see my neighbor's bike helmet. Oh my goodness! I just realized that it's my friend, Mason's helmet. Mason and his family (his sister Taylor has been featured here a few times) moved a few weeks ago. As I was looking through my photos tonight, I saw the red helmet and thought, a-ha! not even thinking until about the owner of the helmet until my second read through. I sure hope they are settling into their new home. Mason is in the 8th grade, not an easy time of life for a school change.
Anyway........My town, Chico, CA, was named one of the top US bike towns back in 1997. I'm sure it's got to be even higher ranked now with bike paths are all over town, bike lanes on most major streets. When I first moved here, 15 years ago, I was nervous driving alongside the bikes. Now it's nothing - I give them room and we are okay. When I'm riding my bike, I make eye contact with the drivers, it's the only way that I can know that they see me. I teach my girls this, as well.

It's fun for the kids who are tall enough, but put a shortie on there and it gets dangerous. Today one student ran into another and a boy got the wind knocked out of him. He was so mad.
